The Transporter

About Me

Some of you may already know or know of me, and some of you may not.

A transgender woman, I have been in the New Zealand darts scene firstly in the upper half of the North Island under Dave “The Bro” Bates, and now as Katrina “The Transporter” Bates in Christchurch, my home town, having started in 2014 but first learned the sport in 2011.

The Name

The Bro was intended to carry a kiwi theme but didn’t fit when I was questioning my gender identity in 2019.

The Transporter came about after 16 options were put to the vote under a knockout formal. The Transporter won the whole knockout. The theme now, it’s about trans pride including my colours coming from the trans pride flags: pink, white & blue.

My vision for this is to use my extra skills to showcase myself while giving myself the time to practice that a 9-5 wouldn’t allow me to have. If I can put myself on the world stage, that’s a bonus, but I aim to be among the names in Ladies’ darts in Aotearoa while inspiring the next generation of the transgender community to reach their potential in their chosen paths.
